Eastron SDM630 100A Direct Connect Meter for Three Phase Energy Monitoring

The Eastron SDM630 100A direct-connect meter gives sites a compact DIN-rail path to three-phase measurement and Modbus integration.

The Eastron SDM630 100A direct-connect meter is a practical choice when a site needs detailed electrical measurement without moving into a full CT metering architecture. It is widely suited to commercial boards, plant rooms, sub-distribution panels and energy-monitoring projects where DIN-rail space, Modbus integration and three-phase visibility matter.

Measurement and communications

The catalog notes that the SDM630 series measures and displays characteristics across single-phase two-wire, three-phase three-wire and three-phase four-wire networks. Parameters include voltage, frequency, current, power, import energy, export energy and total energy. It can also measure maximum demand current and power over configurable periods of up to 60 minutes.

For energy managers, that measurement set is valuable because it goes beyond billing kWh. Demand, phase loading, import and export trends, and power conditions all help identify where consumption is happening and whether the electrical installation is operating as expected.

Why direct connect can be useful

A 100A direct-connect meter can simplify installations where the circuit rating is within the meter capability and CT wiring would add unnecessary complexity. The compact DIN-rail format makes it suitable for retrofit monitoring, tenant sub-metering and equipment-level measurement where panel space is limited.

With Modbus capability available in the SDM630 range, the meter can also feed data into building management systems, dashboards, gateways or local logging hardware. That makes it a good building block for customers who want a phased energy-management project rather than a single isolated meter.

Fast Forward project support

Fast Forward Metering can supply the SDM630 and help confirm whether direct connection is appropriate for the circuit. The team can also advise on RS485 wiring, meter addressing, gateway selection and how the meter will be read after commissioning.

Installation support can include board planning, isolation coordination, meter mounting, communication testing and documentation. The result is a cleaner path from a physical meter in the panel to usable energy data for billing, reporting or operational decisions.
